Food To Table

The idle/clicker game for this week was definitely easier than the previous games, which was nice as I had a pretty busy week last week. Most idle/clicker game are pretty much the same, except with a different theme; some could make something, some could build something, etc. They all have the “make more to get the better thing to make more..” mentality. Even with the extra day to think about our game, this time I only came up with a simple idle/clicker game with the theme of food. Not just one food, but kind of like a farm (or really multiple farms) that make a variety of different agricultural food.

I realized I’m definitely better (or I guess I enjoy more) at making the icons, banners, i.e. the aesthetical parts of games a bit more than the game itself. If I had more time/experience, then I think the actual game would look just as nice as the title screen, but for now I would hold off on that if I made this my final game. I really just like playing around with the look of my games, since usually it’s the looks that pulls a person in, and the gameplay keeps them going.

Once I started to get all my images and what objects were going to be in the game, I didn’t realize it was very similar to what Professor LeMieux had in his tutorials :/ . I mean the objects in the game are different, but the barnyard theme is similar to the farm theme and all. I don’t think there’s any other way to create an idle/clicker game like that (besides changing the theme and objects), but still I kind of feel bad :/.

I think this game is probably the easiest to build upon for the final project (just add more objects to click and make it look better) but I do want to try to build upon one of the other four first. Everyone has lots of great feedback (add timer/save, possible day/night and/or season cycle), and I would add more like more items to purchase, multiple buy buttons, more text labeling objects and instructions, and an overall goal for players to achieve.
