Paint on Spruce
June 21, 2008
I was commissioned to create a landscape painting for new Anchorage homeowners Mike and Kristin Rutledge. Digital photographs of the home's largest window were taken throughout the Summer Solstice then numerically averaged to determine a particular shade of green: 657B3D. Three wooden panels were constructed to match exactly the size and number of glass panes in the photographed window. Monochromes were then painted with 657B3D. The reduction emphasized in the green wooden panels is a key characteristic of all representational markmaking, of pixel and painted stroke.
